Finish one game at a time

Open only one game on a clear surface. Put figures, dice and tokens in suitable small bags or closed compartments. Label bags that would not be easy to match to a particular game. Keep the instructions with the game rather than collecting several rulebooks in a separate paperwork pile.

Check whether existing inserts actually retain their contents. An open compartment will not necessarily stay organised when tilted. Small additional containers may help, but should not press against the board or lid. Avoid putting loose elastic bands directly around delicate cards if they could leave marks.

Close the box without damaging its surface

The lid should sit fully in place. If expansions overfill the box, pack them separately and mark the connection on both packages. A large bulge is not a sign of efficient packing. It makes crushed edges and escaped components more likely.

Use an appropriate outer wrapping to secure a box that opens easily. Do not put tape directly on a printed game box whose surface might tear during removal. Give collectors' editions or delicate packaging extra surface protection without compressing them unnecessarily tightly.

Arrange the moving box carefully

Place larger, robust game boxes below lighter ones where their shapes permit. Avoid having a small hard corner press into the centre of a delicate lid. Fill space around the edges so the games do not slide against one another during the journey.

During unpacking, initially keep cushioning material on a clear surface. Check whether an accessory bag lies between its layers before putting the games on a shelf. This keeps the contents matched to each game even if a wrapping shifted during transport.
